Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a continuous pain in the right upper side of my Abdomen, under the last chest rib. this pain started two weeks ago. I went to a doctor and he could not figure out the reason of this pain. This pain has no relation with my food. it can come at any time.
Dear Abdullah: Right upper quadrant pain has several caused because of important organs in that location. Possible causes include:
- Right lung disease (infection, fluid, puncture)
- Herniated Diaphragm
- Acid Reflux
- Peptic or Duodenal Ulcer
- Hepatitis
- Pancreatitis
- Gall stones
- Kidney Stones
- Biliary Tract Disease
- Muscle Spasms/Strain
In the emergency department, an X Ray, ultrasound, urine test and blood test is usually performed to aid in the diagnosis. If the pain continues, speak to your doctor which test would best aid in the diagnosis. I would not reccomend any medications to treat the pain without a diagnosis as they may mask symtoms of serius disease. |
