Dear Ask The Doctor: How long does it take to see the results from taking b5 for gout? ive had toe gout for a few days and started taking b5 i just need to know if i need to go see a doctor or wait it out.
Dear Robert: The treatment of an acute gout attack involves the use of Colcichine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or steroids either orally or injected into the joint space. An additional investigational agent Interleukin-1 inhibition may be used if unable to tolerate anti-inflammatory drugs. Without therapy, acute gouty arthritis usually resolves within a few days to several weeks. However, symptoms improve more quickly with administration of any of the anti-inflammatory drugs. Upon resolution of the acute attack, you may or may not require preventative therapy such as Allopurinol. I would advise attending your family doctor for a prescription to aid symptom resolution. |
