|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been terribly sick for weeks, an I finally got my hands on a z pack. I have taken the last dose todayy. I have had this terrible headache on ly left side only for almost a week now. Today I woke up with the left top half of my teeth hurting too, my left side of my head even hurts to touch. This morning also I had rusty coloredsnot out of my left nostril. Now that my pain has become almost unbearable my question is do I need to go to the hospital. The only reason I am posting is that I have no insurance and can not afford a visit. Please help. Dear Jessica: It is most likely that your symptoms of headache, tooth pain and rusty colored nasal discharge could be the result of acute sinusitis. The most common cause of sinusitis is a viral infection associated with the common cold. Viral rhinosinusitis can be complicated by acute bacterial infection. Since you have been experiencing severe headaches, and facial pain it is may be necessary to consult a doctor or preferably an ENT specialist for immediate evaluation and probable imaging. Complication that need needs to be ruled out is intracranial and orbital extension of the sinus infection. Amoxicillin is the preferred antibiotic of choice in acute sinusitis. Other treatment options include nasal saline rinses, steam inhalation, topical decongestants, oral antihistamines and NSAIDS. |
