Migraines and Left Arm Pain

Dear Ask The Doctor: I'm 31 yrs old. I work 60 plus hrs weekly. I have pain in my left arm. Between my elbow and shoulder. I do smoke. I have headaches on a daily basics.
Dear Craig: Angina or a heart attack needs to be ruled out in someone who is experiencing symptoms of pain in the left arm. However having said this it is important to remember that similar symptoms can occur in a muscle sprain or migraine attack. Given your young age I dont think you may have angina however that is a diagnosis one wouldnt want to miss. Thus I advice you to see your family physician in order to conduct a complete physical examination and order tests like an electrocardiogram, complete blood count, lipid profile, and exercise stress test if needed. |
