Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a cold and have had it for the past 4 days but I'm not sure if it was a cold or if it is a flue. Only since yesterday I started to get a headache in one spot on the left side of my head. It started to hurt even more today really badly, it is a constant pain but sometimes it seems to hurt less. I took some cold and flu capsules at around 10:30 this morning and the pain slowly faded away however after roughly four hours the pain came back and seems to hurt even more than ever. I wouldn't describe it as a jabbing or throbbing pain but it it just above my left eyebrow and spreads downwards to my upper eyelid. Please help me!
Dear Amberlie: It is very common to experience headaches after a bout of flu. Collection in the sinuses are associated with headaches and feeling of fullness and pressure around the eyes and nose. Headaches due to mild sinus congestion will require saline nasal spray, steam inhalation and the use of humidifiers. More severe cases may need antibiotics and even drainage of the mucus collection. If your symptoms worsen over time even after these measures, consider consulting an ENT doctor for x-ray or CT of the sinuses. |
