Management of Stress Headaches

Dear Ask The Doctor: When my husband get stress out he get a big headache everything and also his back headache hurt, his cheeks swallows

Dear Tim: The headaches experienced by your husband is most probably related to his stress. Tension headache is the most common type of headache and is caused due to stress. Managing a tension headache is often a balance between fostering healthy habits, finding effective nondrug treatments and using medications appropriately. Your husband should try to reduce stress by incorporating some aerobic exercise into his routine, or meditation and yoga would also be beneficial. Pain medications (NSAIDS) can be used to relieve the symptoms of headache. Using medications in conjunction with stress management techniques may be more effective than is either treatment alone in reducing tension headaches.
