Severe headache after a period of memory problem

Dear Ask The Doctor: Today in my first period of school we played capture the flag i remember half the game but then i seemed to have lost awareness of everything and i regained "consiousness" later but with a bump on my head and a horrible headache. I know i didnt pass out or faint because i wasnt in the nurses it was like I completely forgot everything i did so i asked my friend what happened he didnt see me get hit but he said i did what i normally would have like gone back to the locker rooms and changed and stuff. So all day iv had this horrible headache and its probably the worst i have ever had in my life and im wondering if i could be suffering internal bleeding in my brain or something

Dear Bob: Sometimes the migraine headaches may produce the symptoms that you described; also Absence seizures, which are a type of generalized seizures. In childhood absence epilepsy, seizures are frequent and brief, lasting just a few seconds. The cause of these seizures is not fully understood, it has to do with chemical neurotransmitters that enhance firing electrical activity in given areas of the brain. But the only way to know what is really happening is with a comprehensive neurological evaluation, by a specialist, which I strongly recommend in your case.
