Bad headaches not relieved by medication

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a fifteen year old girl and have been getting awful headaches around four to five times a week for about two years now. I have already tried altering my diet, have had brain scans, a lumbar puncture and i have been taking pizotifen for three weeks. None of these treatments have provided a solution to my problem. Is there anything else I can do?
Dear Emma: You need to identify the triggers for the headache like insufficient sleep, fasting, hunger, brightness, stress, tension etc. Eating a healthy diet and daily exercise may help improve your headaches. You may also perform meditation, yoga, deep breathing or other relaxation exercises to reduce stress. Breathing 100% oxygen and sumatriptan medication may help relieve cluster headache (if it is the cause). In general, avoidance of the triggers alongwith a healthy lifestyle may certainly help reduce the frequency and severity of headaches. You may also consider psychotherapy for treatment.
