Can migraine symptoms affect my reading?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a sufferer of migraines and it is always on the right side of my head just behind and above my ear. This isn't new, I've been getting headaches my whole life and they usually go away within a certain amount of time. Within the past week, I've had the usual feeling of a pressure on the right side of my head, except this time, along with it, I've noticed that when I read, I have to read much slower than I usually would. It's not that I can't read at all, but that I have to slow down with what I'm reading, re-read. It feels as if my eyes are involuntarily skipping words, and I noticed I've been mistaking several words for different ones. I'm really worried that this is not going to go away and that I will not be able to read properly again. I'd very much like to know if I'm just paranoid and it's in my head, or if I need to have something done to take care of this problem.
Migraines may come with an aura. This means that it may come with accompanying symptoms, in your case, they’re more of blind spots or blurred vision which is why you have changes in reading skills. Classic migraine and migraine with aura have the same treatment. You should see a doctor in person so you can be reassessed and have treatment. Also, avoid things that can trigger your migraine. May I ask if you are using eyeglasses? If you do have one, it may be high time you should see your eye doctor again because changes in vision can also cause headaches. I do hope this helps and take care always. |
