Dear Ask The Doctor: If hearing is lost in one ear, due to injury and the other ear hearing has been lost due to aging, do both ears need hearing aids? The injured ear hears nothing before and after hearing aids placed. The other ear is hearing much better. This question is my 74yr old mother, who is in my care Dear Sue: Since the hearing aid does not improve the hearing in the injured ear then there is no need to continue using one. If the injured ear is so severely damaged then there is nothing that can be done. |
