Dear Ask The Doctor: Good day, I'm not sure if I'm in the right category, but here goes. I've been having a high pitched ringing in my head for more than a week now. This goes along with struggling to focus and very low concentration. Sometimes it feels like i want to fall over. I've been to the hospital - They did an MRI, but that is clear they said. Also the Ear, nose and throat specialist said there's nothing wrong from his side. Do you have any idea what might be wrong?
Dear Gideon: The symptom you have described is called Tinnitus. Unfortunately, there a re numerous conditions which can have tinnitus as one of the presenting symptoms. Without an extensive evaluation it is impossible to even hazard a guess at what might be the cause of your tinnitus. Though you have already done an MRI and seen an ENT specialist, I still think that you require more detailed evaluation. The examination should be performed by an ENT specialist who has specific expertise in dealing with this condition. You should also note, that occasionally no cause for tinnitus can be found and treatment is aimed at reducing the discomfort. |
