Diagonal Ear Lobe Creases in younger male, Sign of Coronary Artery Disease?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a 34 year old male, 6'2" 215 pounds- former college athlete. Pretty good shape. My question pertains to diagonal ear lobe creases. I have diagonal ear lobe creases in both ear lobes and wanted to know if I should be worried about coronary artery disease? Is this a credible predictor of CAD for someone this young? I am freaking out a little bit and would like some guidance. Thank you.
Dear Scott: There are conflicting studies about the relation of diagonal ear creases and cardiac diseases. Some studies have suggest that the presence of these ear creases indicate a risk for fatal cardiovascular disease whereas other found that these were normally present in older people and did not signify any increased cardiovascular risk.
Diagonal ear creases are not a positive indicator of an underlying cardiac disease. However if you have certain signs like breathlessness, irregular heartbeat or bluish discoloration of the extremities you may need to see a doctor to rule out an underlying cardiac disease. |
