Enlarged heart post triple vessel CABG

Dear Ask The Doctor: 5 years ago I had a triple bi pass and recently had a chest x-ray done and was told I had a slightly enlarged heart - what may have caused this and what should I do?
Dear Richard: If the Chest X-Ray was performed in thestandard projection position (i.e. posterior to anterior) then your heart enlargement may be due to dilatation of the heart or thickening of the muscle. A Chest X-Ray is not a particularly sensitive tool for evaluation of heart size and I would recommend an echocardiogram to assess heart size and function. |
