Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello Dr., my grand mom is 79 years old and doctors say that the echo test is showing that the heart pumping is very low - 15 % of normal results. She has diabetics , about 10 days back she had a urine infection which is normal now arnd -1.3 and also had a jaundice. But currently the doctor we have taken her to is saying the urine infection & jaundice is not an issue, the issue is of echo. Please suggest us that how can we recover her health as soon as possible, what are the do's & dont's , treatment for her in this condition. Thanks
Dear Aadhar: The cause of the low heart function needs to be investigated. In order to do this your grandmother should be referred to a cardiologist. The echo should be reviewed to ensure that there are no problems with any of the valves in the heart and a coronary angiogram may be required to assess blood flow tothe heart muscle. If any abnormalities are found on echo or coronary angiogram, then they may warrant treatment. Various medications can also be considered to improve the heart function. These can be recommended by the cardiologist who should review your grandmother and provide further advice. |
