Regular aspirin is not recommended for ectopic heart beats or heart murmurs

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi,
I have often heard about recommendations for routine intake of low dosage aspirin, particularly for men… My husband is 44, has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and ectopic heart beat… He does NOT take medication for either condition, but did take beta blockers many years ago for the ectopic beat… Is he somebody that should be taking aspirin on a regular basis for heart disease prevention(???)…
Thanks,
Deb
Dear Deb: Overall there is no evidence to support the use of regular aspirin in your husband (unless he has other conditions unspecified). Aspirin is generally not recommended for the treatment of ectopic heart beats or for the treatment of heart murmurs. |
