C-reactive protein level in the blood

Dear Ask The Doctor: What does a high 8.78 c-reactive protein, cardiac mean?
Dear Marilyn: A CRP level of <5 is normal, therefore a level of 8.78 is marginally raised but unlikely to be significant. C reactive protein is an acute phase reactant protein and levels may increase rapidly in response to infection or inflammation. Levels may rise from 100 to 200, particularly if the infection or inflammation is severe. Therefore with a CRP level of 8,78, there is no real cause for concern. |
