Dear Ask The Doctor: Can you still have a colg artery in the neck...Even though your stress echo gram is normal Dear Dawn:It is possible that you have a clogged carotid artery (main artery in the neck), even though your test of heart function (stress echocardiogram) is normal. Atherosclerosis (fatty deposits) in the carotid artery can predispose to transient ischaemic attacks (ministroke) or stroke. If you are concerned regarding narrowing (stenosis) of your carotid artery I would recommend a carotid artery Doppler ultrasound to assess flow through both carotid arteries and determine if any significant narrowing is present. |
