Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a heart attack on may 5th, 2009...I had one stent put in for 100% blockage, another was 60% but no stent was needed. I was put on Plavix and 325 millagrams of aspirin. I recently saw mt heart dr. and he said I could reduce my aspirin to 81 mg. and go off the Plavix cause after 2 years after a heart attack, I no longer need it. My question is...can I really go off the plavix? I was told in the hospital I would be on it the rest of my life otherwise i risk the chance of my stent closing or another heart attack..I am very concerned and dont know what to do...any info would be greatly appreciated!! Sue
Dear Sue: Typically after a heart attack and a stent placement plavix is continued in order to keep the blood thin and flowing well and avoid restenosis. However your doctor may have stopped it for a reason and you should ask him the same. I hope this helps. |
