Myocardial syncope

Dear Ask The Doctor: My dr. says I have something called ( this is how it sounds, not sure of the spelling) myocardiomycynchophi. What is this, and how is it really spelled? Thank you KElly

Dear Kelly: You could be referring to myocardial syncope or cardiomyopathy, although I am only guessing because I am not familiar with the term you have written. Myocardial syncope is a sudden, transient loss of consciousness or "drop-attacks" that occur arising from the heart. It may be caused by vasovagal syncope, narrowing of the heart valves (aortic stenosis), thickening of the heart muscle (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), heart attack (myocardial infarction) or clot in the lung (pulmonary embolus). I would advise discussing the correct diagnosis with your cardiologist to find out the cause specific to your case.
