Can Seasonal Allergies Cause PVCs?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Can being in a new state and getting extreme seasonal allergies lead to PVC's when I have never had them before? And when I go back home will they go away?

Dear Alex: Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) may occur with no cause. Some of the common reasons for PVCs include stress lack of sleep, exhaustion, smoking, caffeine, alcohol, magnesium and potassium deficiency, calcium excess, or may be related to an underlying cardiac condition. In your case stress seems to be the aggravating factor - adjusting at the new place and the stress on your system due to increased allergies. The most effective treatment is the elimination of triggers particularly the cessation of smoking, caffeine and alcohol. Lifestyle modification to reduce stress with meditation, exercise or any other relaxation therapy would help, along with a nutritious diet and adequate fluid intake to maintain the balance of lost minerals and other nutrients of the body. If you feel much more comfortable and less stressed out when you are back home, your symptoms may disappear eventually with removal of the triggers.
