Acid reflux, none of the given tablets work

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello, i've been suffering from the acid reflux in the past 6months, i've been taking omeprazole 20mg, then lanzoprazole, then others and finally i'm on the list for the operation, while waiting i was told to take pantoprazole 40mg. was doing that 2 months and now i'm still in pain nevermind my diet and that i even take 5-6 tablets a day, just nothing seems to help anymore. maybe You could help me and offer some stronger tablets just to not have this terrible pain till i get the operation done thank You very much !

Dear Lina: You may try using antacids that come in the form of magnesium hydroxide (such as Milk of Magnesia) or aluminum hydroxide, for instance Di-gel, Gaviscon, Gelusil, Maalox etc. They can be bought over the counter and work to simply neutralize the level of acidity in the stomach. Antacids work fast and is therefore best if you need immediate relief from hyperacidity.
