Dear Ask The Doctor: Since April, I have noticed swelling on my left hip. I get mild to moderate pain at times in the left pelvis as well. At times, I get a stiffness sensation that goes into my legs. Could it be a hernia?
Dear Mike: The location you have described is not a common location for a hernia. Nonetheless, the swelling may be a lumbar hernia. This could explain your other symptoms as well. One of the key features of a hernia is that the swelling may be reduced when pressure is applied or on its own. It is best to have an examination by a doctor to confirm the diagnosis. If it is indeed a hernia, you will require an operation to correct the problem. |
