Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a mass above my right testicle. sometimes it goes away. it seems like it contains a fluid. kinda large . doesnt hurt really . should i be worried. sometimes it swells a little sometimes nothing at all
Dear Brandon: Your symptoms suggest that you may have developed a groin hernia. It is not uncommon for such hernias to 'travel' to the upper portion of the scrotum and even be mistaken for a testicular mass. Most hernias do not cause significant symptoms but should be surgically repaired due to the risk of developing complications. These complications can result in debilitating illness and usually require emergency surgery.
It is also possible (but less likely) that you have a hydrocele. A hydrocele is collection of fluid within the scrotum and is harmless. It is easily corrected by a simple surgical procedure. |
