Hiatal hernia and anxiety |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have recently started having panic attacks now on a daily basis. I am on Zoloft and it seems to suppress the symptoms. I was just diagnosed with a moderate hiatal hernia and have been having stomach pain. I feel when I get the stomach pain I start with an anxiety attack. could these two be related? I have never had an issue with depression or anxiety until just recently. Dear Kara: I certainly agree with you that experiencing pain and having a recent diagnosis of Hiatal hernia might indirectly have increased your anxiety symptoms. Nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying are common symptoms of anxiety and having a recent diagnosis could certainly exacerbate your symptoms. I agree with the treatment that you are receiving at the moment and would suggest you to comply with it, let me reassure you that Sertraline would take a few weeks to start working but I am sure that would help you dealing with the stress and anxiety. I wish you a prompt recovery. |
