Dear Ask The Doctor: I had surgery 2.5 weeks ago and now have severe redness and a very hard area near incision site I have a fever and nausea and pain? I feel sick and the doctor is out of town and I don't know if this is normal or something is wrong? Dear Betty: It is highly likely you have developed an infection at the operation site. You should see another doctor as soon as possible or visit your nearest emergency room. You will need a course on antibiotics and depending on the severity of the infection, a minor procedure to remove infected tissue from the wound. You should not delay treatment as the infection will not resolve on its own and will get worse if left untreated. |
