Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a 59 year old female who had a successful kidney transplant on May 18, of 2010.I subsequently developed an inguinal incisional hernia and had it surgically repaired just 3 weeks ago on December 15, 2010. Today, January 3rd, although the abdomen is more uniform, the hernial bump is still there. Could I have another hernia or will it take more time for the bump to go down to normal following this latest surgery??? Dear Diane: The 'hernia bump' that you are now experiencing most likely represents scar tissue and not a recurrence of your incisional hernia. You should allow more time for the bump to resolve as the area heals. |
