Dear Ask The Doctor: I just recently decided to start working out again and the other night after doing push ups and crunches I have been experiencing a pain below my abs whenever I bend to get up from bed or try to do push ups again. It isn't a severe pain but is enough that It seems too painful to do pushups again. Could this be a hernia?
Dear Tony: It is possible that you have developed a hernia. However the more likely scenario is that you have injured one of your lower abdominal muscles from the strenuous exercise. This can be confirmed with a simple ultrasound. With adequate rest and ice, the pain should resolve in about 7-10 days. |
