What are the exercises to be done to strengthen the abdominal muscles? How soon can i have sex? Dear Aneesh: Hernioplasty involves the use of a synthetic mesh to repair a hernia. This is now the gold standard treatment for hernias. Recovery time varies between individuals but averages about 4 weeks. You should be able to return to strenuous activity including sexual intercourse after this time has elapsed. You should avoid any activity that will increase intra-abdominal pressure such as straining to pass stool, smoking, or abdominal exercises until you have fully recovered. If your work does not involve heavy physical activity you may return to work in about 7-10 days. |
