Dear Ask The Doctor: My mother is around 46(age). She has no medical history before. She felt a little pain few days back in her lower portion of stomach. She felt something was bulging out a little from past few days. She consulted a doctor and he asked for Ultrasound. In ultrasound they deducted its hernia. I wanted to know if it requires a major surgery. What can be the cost of treatment and how much time will it take to recover?
Dear Vijeta: Hernia surgery involves the repair of a defect in a layer of the abdominal wall. The procedure is not considered major surgery. The cost of the procedure may vary significantly depending on your location. This issue is best discussed with your surgeon. Recovery time should not be long as the procedure does not require any stay in hospital. Most persons are able to return to work within a week. |
