Hernia Repair using a Mesh....

Dear Ask The Doctor: I visited a doctor this week about having my hernia fixed. (It is about an inch above my bellybutton.) This doctor wants to suture the internal tear, then staple a mesh above the repaired tear. He said he doesn't want to leave the repair open (as in a tension-free repair) when using the mesh. I haven't heard of a doctor doing both a tension repair AND using a mesh. Is this common? I can't find any information on the internet about this procedure... is it because this an outdated procedure? Also, how does this type of repair differ from laproscopic repair with possible reoccurences?
Dear Lyia: Your doctor is correct in his doings. This is definitely an older method, but a method which works with great results. Good luck to you. |
