Discomfort After Hernia Surgery

Dear Ask The Doctor: I had hernia surgery 4 months ago in the left side. Now if I pull my leg up to tie my shoes or anything I have a feeling I have something inside my body pushing my stomach. I know the doctor used a patch to repair the hernia and sitting on the couch is very difficult and sometimes painful. I was just wondering is this normal or what I should do about it.
Dear Babu: The sensation of 'something pushing your stomach' is normal. This is due to presence of the synthetic mesh used in the hernia repair. You should soon become accustomed to this feeling. However, you should not be experiencing any pain. Frankly, i am not sure what may be causing you discomfort and it is perhaps best that you return to your surgeon and explain this new development to him/her. |
