Dear Ask The Doctor: So about 4 weeks ago I was doing heavy lifting and 2 days later i felt really, really sore. My Abdominal Area, i know i am no doctor but as far as i can see and feel i see no lumps. but to this day it still feels a bit sore. though not as sore as i used to feel. the sore feeling is located going down about an inch from the belly button and going 2 or 3 inches on right and left side (i scribbled in red in the picture of where i feel discomfort). I hope its not a hernia. I don't really feel pain, I can still lift heavy, exercise, run, and walk. Though what i feel i can't describe the only word that comes to mind is discomfort. please help! thanks!
Dear Johnny: From your symptoms it seems that you have sustained a muscular strain due to the heavy lifting. This usually starts out as pain and then gradualy subsides over 5-7 days to a discomfort and dull ache that you are describing. It is highly unlikely that you have got bilateral hernias and moreover you would be in intense and much more pain. I would suggest some heat compress for the area which is sore along with some anti inflamatory gel like voltaren (as long as you are not alergic or have a medical condition that does not allow you to take voltaren). This should help relax the muscles. In case the pain gets worse or doesnt improve or you notice any lumps in that area I would advice you to go get it checked out by your family physician.
