Dear Ask The Doctor: Should I still have pains 6 months after inguinal hernia mesh repair?
Dear Jerry: You should not have pain 6 months after hernia repair. This is unusual. A likely explanation is entrapment of a nerve in the inguinal repair. Nerve injury is usually self-limiting but may require steroid injections to relieve inflammation and pain. Occasionally, surgery may be required in the form of a neurectomy (nerve removal) to alleviate symptoms. You should discuss these options with your surgeon. |
