Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a 79 yesrs old man. I am taking 5mg amlodipin daily. At the moment, no swelling at the ankles. My systolic blood pressure dropped from 196 Hgmm to 163 Hg mm. What id the probability that mmy ankles swell if I increase the dose to 10 mg? If in this case I have swelling at my ankles, will the swelling disappear if I go back to 5 mg? Will the systolic blood pressure go down to 140 Hgmm if I take 10 mmg amlodipin? Is it worth striving to reduce my blood pressure further risking side effects like swollen ankles?
Dear Jozsef: I would not suggest you to alter the dosage of amlodipine on your own. Please consult your doctor for any modification of drug dosages. |
