Dear Ask The Doctor: I currently take atenolol, 50mg, once a day. I would like to start taking this medication every other day. It works well, and always has kept my blood pressure under control. Would I be able to start taking this every other day without noticing any adverse side affects? I have no other health issues. Dear Marty: I would suggest that you consult your doctor before attempting to re-adjust the dosage schedule, your doctor has a better understanding of your body and will be able to give you more accurate advice for the control of your blood pressure. However, it may be possible to reduce the frequency very slowly once optimum control of the blood pressure has been achieved for a sufficient period of time, and other measures like diet control and exercise are also followed effectively to control the blood pressure.
