Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 32 years old and just had my second child 9 weeks ago.My blood pressure is 156 over 120. Is this normal after giving birth
Dear Jeni: Its not normal for blood pressure to be that high unless, that you have been suffering from hypertension or any other preexisting disease that can cause increase in blood pressure. Although some women develop preeclampsia during pregnancy, one may develop the symptoms of preeclampsia within 6 weeks after pregnancy which is called post partum preeclampsia. You need to continue your blood pressure medications, and follow up regularly with your doctor to prevent any complications. |
