Will short-term use of prednisone (steriods) cause hairloss?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I recently got a bad rash and the doctor told me it is hives and prescribed me with prednisone 10mg twice a day for 9 days..im reading online it causes hair loss and htat worrys me i have beautiful hair n dotn want to loose it

Dear Kristel: As with any medication, prednisone has its side-effects. However, short-term use of the drug will not cause hairloss. The side effects of short-term use of prednisone includes stomach irritation, headaches and insomnia. Not everyone taking the drug will experience the side-effects and in most cases effects will be minor and most patients will tolerate it well.
