Chronic Hives - Tried Everything

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello, Currently I suffer from hives and have tried every anti-histamne known to earth. I have tried tepid showers and jumping in our freexing cold pool, but nothing seems to help. Lately, they have been getting in my throat and have slight difficulty breathing. What can i do to stop all this?

Dear Kaylen: Hives are usually an allergic reaction to a drug, food, infections or stress. They usually go away on their own. In severe cases steroids may also be prescribed along with topical creams and lotions to control itching. In rare cases, allergic reactions can cause a dangerous swelling in your airways, making it hard to breathe - which is a medical emergency. If you find difficulty in breathing or swelling in the throat, before the symptoms worsen further, you should visit a hospital’s emergency department for treatment to avoid further blockage of the respiratory tract.
