Hodgkins Lymphoma a haematological disorder

Dear Ask The Doctor: My son (19 years old)was admitted to a hospital for Hodgkin's lymphoma. The hospital assigned a dermatologist as the first doctor to his case. My questionis whether this assigning of a dermatologist is correct?

Dear Lim: Hodgkins lymphoma is a type of lymphoma, which is a type of cancer originating from white blood cells called lymphocytes. This is usually diagnosed and treated by specialized doctors known as Haematologists. I am not sure why your son has been referred to a dermatologist; this may have been a mistake. I would advise contacting your sons attending physician, for clarification of the reasons why a dermatology referral is necessary, or for an appropriate referral to the correct specialist.
