Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello Im a 37 year old female, that has always had undiagnosed problems with menstration. I've had laproscopy and hormonal tests, and the only thing revealed was a small fibroid. Im wondering if its my thyroid, even though results are normal. My questions is What is considered normal body temperature? Mine is anywhere from 35-36 degrees celsius. Is this normal temperature? Or could this indicate something?
Dear Jodi: The temperatures that you have measured seem like normal body temperatures, but it depends on where the temperature was taken. Different parts of the body have different temperatures. Rectal temperatures, which are taken directly inside the body cavity, are typically higher than oral temperatures, and oral temperatures are somewhat higher than skin temperature. Average core body temperature (internal) is 37.0 °C. The typical oral temperature is 36.8±0.7 °C. In adult men and women the normal range for oral temperature is 33.2–38.2 °C , for rectal it is 34.4–37.8 °C , for the Tympanic cavity it is 35.4–37.8 °C and for axillary it is 35.5–37.0 °C. |
