Recently got diagnosed with hypothyroidism and they think its something to do with my pituitary gland

Dear Ask The Doctor: I recently got diagnosed with hypothyroidism and they think its something to do with my pituitary gland, we had a scan and no tumor was found but they still think there is a problem with my pituitary what could this be and what are the treatments for it?

Dear Rosie: A majority of cases involving hypothyroidism are to do with a problem in the thyroid gland. It is very rare that it is from the pituitary gland. The pituitary is not producing appropriate TSH. The way they will probbaly do treatment is by giving you hormones. Hope this helps.
