Dear Ask The Doctor: I am taking 125mcg of Levothyroxine and have been for about 3 years now. Over this period i have been losing my hair. Is there anything at all i can take or do to stop this happening. I am only 34 so this a very big worry and concern for me. Thank you Dear Zoe: I understand your concern. Unfortunately hair thinning and hair loss is a symptom of hypothyroidism. However since you are on Levothyroxine and you are still having significant hair loss this could indicate that your hypothyroidism is not being well controlled. I advice you to see your GP for a thyroid level test and also maybe consider increasing your medication dosage. |
