Dear Ask The Doctor: I have had very frequent night sweats for a few years now. In the last 6 months it has been 4-5 times a week average. I wake up in a puddle. This only happens at night. I have had my hormone levels checked, I am not Pre-menopausal. I had my thyroid tested and I have hypothyroidism, I am taking Levrothorixine (spelling?) and now have had my thyroid rechecked and the T3 and T4 levels and everything is normal.. I still have the night sweats. Should I see an endocrinologist? Or should I just accept the night sweats as part of me?
Dear Janey: There are a number of conditions with night sweats. Tuberculosis is one of them, also lymphoma, to name a few. You may go back to your doctor and ask him/her if you should worry about these other diseases. Your doctor may have done tests (xrays, blood tests) already to rule out the other more common diseases that also causes night sweats, but just ask your doctor to be sure. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Take care. |
