Thyroid replacement hormone side effects

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi i have been taking eltroxin for 4 months now for hypothyriodism. I have been back to the doctor at the six week mark and my bloods were done again. The doctor said it was ok to continue at the dose that im on. I also suffer with P.C.O.S and i am taking glucophage and a progesterone pill to treat it. Lately i found that my moods are all over the place and i get very breatless in the morning. I have also been feeling hungry even after a meal and have gained weight. Can you tell me if this is normal or should i go back to the doctor.

It seems like most of your symptoms could be due to Eltroxin. Eltroxin is a replacement thyroid hormone used to treat hypothyroidism. Thyroid hormones increase a person’s metabolism that is probably why you are hungry most of the time and gained weight. The breathlessness could possibly be due to Eltroxin too. I don’t think there is something that needs urgent attention for now. The progesterone pill could be causing your mood being all over the place. However, make sure you mention these symptoms to your doctor on your next visit. If the breathlessness worsens or there will be additional symptoms like palpitations (like heart beating out of chest), then you should go back to your doctor as soon as possible. I do hope this helps. Take care always.
