Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello there! One week ago my eyes started to jaundice slightly. The yellow color started as just a slight tint under my eyelids on the bottom. Since then it has turned to a more vivid gold color, and spread to the corners of my eyes and towards my iris just the slightest bit. I know jaundice is a sign of liver problems but I have no other symptoms! No yellow skin, yellow nails, nothing. So why are my eyes turning yellow?? I scheduled a doctors appointment but they can't get me in for another week. I am just too curious to wait that long! Please help.
Dear Emily: Yellowish discoloration of the eyes could indicate an increased level of bile pigments in the blood as a result of certain diseases such as hepatitis. A liver function test will certainly confirm the presence of jaundice. Since you have no associated symptoms like itchiness, pain in his right abdomen or fever, it is difficult for me to tell. You will have to wait for your doctor's appointment and liver function tests to confirm the presence of jaundice. I wish you well, take care. |
