Liver Enzymes and Alcohol and tylenol intake

Dear Ask The Doctor: My liver enzymes went from 15 to 123 due to the use of tylenol and drinking alchol also. Am I currently in the range of having liver disease? If I quit drinking and the taking of the meds will my liver numbers go back to normal? Also, how "high" is that 123 number?

Dear Arnie:  Your levels are infact high. This is due to the damage caused to your liver because of the tylenol and acohol intake. You definately need to rest your liver and stop taking in the medication as well as alcohol and this will help the enzyme level to fall back to normal. However chronic intake of the same can lead to irreversible liver damage. All the best.
