Numbness and Dysesthesia in both hands

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 44 years and i have been suffering with pins and needles in my left hand and arm also my left leg but have numbness feeling in both right and left hands , i suffer from siatica for the past two years is this related or is it todo with circulation

Dear David: There are multiple causes of tingling and numbness of the extremities (hands and/or feet): vitamin deficiencies (Vitamin B12), nerve compressions at the level of the spine, problems with the peripheral nerves of hands and feet, circulation and metabolic causes as problems with the Thyroid gland and Diabetes. Once that your physician ruled out the vitamin deficiency, and thyroid problems, might be important to rule out some other metabolic causes as Diabetes, which can produce the symptoms that you described above. Also it would be important rule out a possible carpal tunnel syndrome or a spinal compression.
