Dear Ask The Doctor: Had a EMG test done but don't understad the results. It says "Sagittal, coronal, and axial T1, T2, and STIR images obtained on a GE Signa 1.5 Tesla magnet." Is there an easier understang?
Dear Vicky: A EMG measures the electrical activity of your muscles at rest and while contracting, is done along with the nerve conduction study which measure how fast and fine your nerves can send electrical signals. The words in the results that you described above are no corresponding with the standard way to report the findings and results of a EMG, but the sound like MRI or another imaging study. The EMG normal shows no electrical activity at rest, and show wavy lines on the monitor with the contractions. The nerve conduction studies report the findings in velocity units and may be normal or slower in the case of a nerve injury. |
