Dear Ask The Doctor: Does Nicotine affect a bruised Radial Nerve? I have nerve damage in my left arm, and I'm a smoker. Somebody mentioned that Nicotine will keep it from healing, but I must know for sure.
Dear Jackson:Â Well, in addition to Cancer, smoking causes lung diseases as: chronic bronchitis, emphysema and exacerbation of asthma in adults and children. It is also well documented that smoking raises remarkably the risk of heart disease, including stroke, heart attack, vascular disease and aneurysm. Cigarette or Cigar smokers are 2-4 times more likely to develop coronary heart disease than non-smokers. And, yes the use of Nicotine delay the healing process in several tissues of the body, because interfere with the adequate blood supply in different areas. |
