Foot slapping on the floor when I walk

Dear Ask The Doctor: My left foot is slapping on the floor when i walk this has been happing for about 2 houurs i am 47 and this is the only symtom

Dear Declan: Possibly you are experiencing a Common Peroneal nerve dysfunction, the peroneal nerve is a branch of the Sciatic nerve that gives movement and sensation to the lower leg, foot and toes. Common causes of Peroneal nerve injury include: trauma to the side of the knee, fracture of the fibula, use of tight casts, splints or socks compressing the lower leg, prolonged leg crossing, wearing high boots, pressure to the side of the knee from positions during sleep, injury during knee surgery, and other conditions as Diabetic neuropathy or polyarteritis nodosa, exposure to certain toxins. If you have any metabolic condition as Diabetes, this must be treated, if there is no history of trauma in the area, and the problem developed suddenly, conservative treatment is recommended, meaning anti inflammatory medication and physical therapy exercises to maintain muscle strength. Avoid prolonged pressure to the back or side of the knee, taking vitamin B complex may have a beneficial effect.
